This stool was and still is a staple in schools and kindergartens. It's cheap, sturdy and not afraid to be treated with no care. Made from plywood, it has a circle seat, 4 thick legs an stackable design.
Artek Stool 60.
This is an expensive furniture object. It gives your home status and shows "taste". You can find it in corners of many houses, subtly showing the visitors that even a simple stool in this place is an expensive well designed object.
Both these stools look almost identical. And at some point, Artek patented the design, not allowing Ikea to sell Frosta stools anymore.
I've scoured Amsterdam and nearby towns for the Ikea stools. Often taking buses and trains and buses again, walking under the rain, doing my best not to damage the used chairs. To me they were canvases. A way to continue an object's history. From an uncared for simple piece of furniture to the corner of your house. Bringing you visual pleasure. Making that corner of your nest have meaning.
